New data from the Illinois State Board of Education show many schools in the state have cut back on days of physical education in class schedules.

Illinois is getting almost $35 million of federal aid for early childhood education. The Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant is funding a website informing parents of the quality of school programs in an effort to help them find the best place that matches their children’s needs. The money is also going toward professional development for early-childhood teachers, investments in efficiency, streamlining program administration and data systems and program evaluations.

Last week's record Mega Millions drawing made a winner of Illinois schools, too.  WBBM Radio reports that record Illinois lottery sales in the past nine weeks pumped $31.5 million into the fund devoted to public schools.  Lottery officials say that's mostly because of the multi-state Mega Millions game that reached an all-time high $656 million before producing three main winners in a drawing Friday.  One of the Mega Millions winners bought a ticket in Red Bud near St. Louis.
