Commuters between Paducah and Metropolis could encounter slower passage over the I-24 Ohio River Bridge this week. The Illinois Department of Transportation will begin work Tuesday, taking place in both eastbound and westbound lanes causing daytime lane closures extending through Friday. IDOT spokesman Keith Miley says through traffic should seek alternate routes.

Intense road work along the I-24 Ohio River Bridge is expected to cause heavy traffic delays throughout the week.

Road crews from the Illinois Department of Transportation are milling the westbound lanes of the I-24 Bridge between Paducah and Metropolis, Illinois as part of ongoing deck rehabilitation on the bridge.

We have a report of a multi-vehicle crash blocking traffic on I-24 Westbound at the Ohio River Bridge in Paducah. Officials have set up a detour at Exit 3, rerouting to US 45 and the Irvin Cobb Bridge, but no commercial trucks are allowed on this route. Officials estimate it will take another four hours to restore traffic across the bridge.
