Hemlock Semiconductor


Hemlock Semiconductor is closing its Clarksville plant in Tennessee due to industry oversupply and international trade disputes. The plant’s approximately 50 workers will have the opportunity to relocate to other company or Dow Corning sites.


Officials with Michigan-based Hemlock Semiconductor say they’re laying off three-fourths of their Clarksville employees shortly before production there was to begin.

A Clarksville, Tenn., semiconductor company should begin production of a critical base component of solar energy panels in 2013. Hemlock Semiconductor Director of Contract Manufacturing Terry Strange says construction has gone well on the $1.2 billion first phase of the project.
