One of the world's largest publishers of travel and tourism information has named Hazel, Kentucky among the top ten best antiquing towns in the U.S.  With around 400 residents, the Calloway County community sits just north of the Kentucky/Tennessee line. 

Fodor's Travel lists Hazel alongside other top antiquing destinations as Charleston, South Carolina, Clinton, Tennessee and Galena, Illinois.

Paducah and Nashville are home to many art galleries, but between the two cities sits a small folk art gallery where visitors are treated with stories of the Louisiana swamp land.


A new 12,000-square-foot antique mall will open its doors Friday in Hazel, Ky. The opening is good news for the small town - which Mayor Kerry Vasseur calls "an antique Mecca" - because of multiple closures in recent years.

Police Looking for Hazel Bank Robber

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at approximately 9:11 AM, a black male entered the BB&T Bank in Hazel, KY.   The unknown male was armed with a handgun and demanded money from a teller.  The teller complied and handed over an unknown amount of money.   The male then exited the bank and ran off on foot in an unknown direction of travel.  The robber was described as a black male approximately 6’0” to 6’6”, slim build.   The robber was wearing light colored pants, a long sleeve red plaid shirt, a ball cap and some type of clothing covering his face and head.   The robber was armed with a handgun and is considered to be “armed and dangerous”.

BB&T has announced the closing of two of its branches in Pembroke and Hazel. The Pembroke bank will be consolidated with the Fort Campbell Boulevard branch in Hopkinsville by August 23rd.


The tenth annual 400 Mile Sale will begin Thursday, June 6th. The four day event invites visitors from all over the country to travel along historic Highway 68 and shop at state-wide yard sales and antique shops. Coordinator of the sale Debby Spencer said the event works to bring economic opportunity to small communities.

Storm sirens in Murray, Hazel, and on the Murray State campus will be tested today at about 9 a.m.  The MSU sirens will be tested first, followed by city sirens in Murray and Hazel.  If severe weather threatens this morning, the test will be postponed.
