Graves County Drops Valedictorian and Salutatorian Graduate Distinctions

The Graves County Board of Education has passed a measure that will bring an end to the high school’s awarding of titles such as valedictorian and salutatorian. Students that reach a certain level of academic achievement will be awarded the title “graduate of distinction.”

Graves County Schools Names Scott Bradley Freshman Academy Principal

Graves County High School history teacher Scott Bradley has been named principal of the school’s Freshman Academy. Bradley graduated from Graves County High School in 2002 and has earned a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education from Murray State University, he then earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

How Will the Next Generation of Voters Pick a President?

Every four years a large group of voters get a chance to cast their first ballot for the U.S. President. These voters were m ost likely in high school the last time a president was elected. After a big turn-out of young voters helped push President Barack Obama to victory in the 2008 election, new voters have become a major focus for this year’s campaigns. So with both sides trying to turn young adults into their next party faithful, how does this next generation of voters decide which candidate is right for them?

Bring Your Own Device to Graves County High School

In the Graves County High School library, Amanda Henderson introduces a group of the school’s teachers to the new Bring Your Own Device, or BYOD program. Henderson is Graves County’s District Technology Integration Specialist. The BYOD program she’s discussing is a simple solution to a common problem. Schools need to keep their educational resources up to date, but lack the money to continually refresh them. Henderson says ideally, they would provide every student with their own computer, but in reality, it’s just not feasible.

Graves Co. Teen Competes in National Beauty Pageant

A Graves County High School graduate competes this week for the title of America’s Homecoming Queen in Anaheim, Calif. Tiffani Ellington was Graves County’s homecoming queen, and earned this year’s state homecoming queen title in April.
