Projects using recycled waste tires in places like athletic fields and playgrounds could be eligible for an Energy and Environment Cabinet grant. The funding comes from the Waste Tire Trust Fund that the General Assembly established in 1998 to receive fees collected from new tire sales.
About 20 local governments and other agencies will share more than $1.1 million in grants to develop and maintain recreational trails across Kentucky. The money will also help pay for the acquisition of easements and for trailhead facilities for motorized and non-motorized use.
The City of Mayfield is getting a $15,000 Homeland Security Grant. The city requested the grant to provide face masks and a mask leak/fit tester for the members of the Mayfield Fire Department. The grant comes despite a 50 percent reduction in Department of Homeland Security grants for the state. This year the commonwealth was able to award only $2.2 million dollars from approximately $11.8 million in statewide application requests.
