Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the reopening of Berry Plastics Corporation in Madisonville. The move creates more than 400 full-time jobs. Beshear says nearly $100 million is being invested in the plastic packaging manufacturer.
Governor Steve Beshear has ordered all Kentucky state buildings to fly flags at half staff tomorrow in honor of a fallen Fort Campbell soldier. Twenty-year-old Shane Wilson of Kuna, Idaho, died Oct. 18 in Afghanistan. He was a private first class in the 101st Airborne Division.

The Judicial Nominating Commission that could recommend the Commonwealth’s Republican Senate President David Williams for a southern Kentucky circuit judgeship is set to meet next week in Burkesville. Williams says he’s interested in the position. The appointment will ultimately fall to Democratic Governor Steve Beshear who says being a lawyer, Williams is qualified to be a circuit judge. Beshear has appointed his Republican foes to high-paying jobs to pull them out of the Senate in the past. The Judicial Nominating Commission meeting is set for Oct. 25.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is sending a message to drivers that texting and driving is not acceptable. Beshear will meet with AT&T Kentucky, state police and an automobile wreck survivor today at the Capitol to sign the “Don’t Text and Drive Day” proclamation. The group will also announce a campaign encouraging Kentuckians to make a pledge that they won’t text while driving. The state passed a law against texting and driving two years ago.
