Southern Illinois University’s executive board has hired a Texas search firm and chose its 20-person search committee to help find its new president.

R. William Funk and Associates of Dallas specializes in higher education. The search committee includes faculty, staff, students and community members.

The Southern Illinois University system's governing board is taking the next step in searching for a replacement for the university's retiring president.

The Southern Illinoisan reports that the executive committee of SIU's Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday to name an advisory committee and to hire an outside search firm. Glenn Poshard announced in July that he plans to retire June 30 of next year, even though his contract expires in 2015.

Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard says he will forego the final year of his contract and retire at the end of the upcoming school year.

Poshard informed the SIU Board of Trustees of his decision Thursday morning.
