Kentucky Toyota Plant First in Nation to Produce Lexus

For the first time, a Lexus vehicle will be produced in the United States and it will be made at the Georgetown Toyota plant.  The formal announcement came this morning from officials in New York and Scott County.  Governor Beshear says it means 750 new Kentucky jobs at Toyota.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has signed a bill into law that gives tax incentives to automakers in Kentucky.

The new law allows manufacturers and suppliers to tap the incentives if they have 1,000 employees, have been in business in Kentucky for at least five years and are willing to invest $100 million in the state. The law is an extension of a 2007 program that allowed Ford to invest more than one billion dollars into its two Louisville plants to expand the workforce and re-tool assembly lines.

Conference Organizers Say Kentucky Vulnerable To Human Trafficking

Kentucky may seem like an unlikely breeding ground for human traffickers, but the problem is growing nationally and one area college is hoping a conference will shine a light on the issue.

Jury selection began Thursday in the trial of Anthony and Kathy Hart, a Madison County couple accused of trafficking their young daughters in Richmond, KY. It’s cases like these that Regan Lookadoo, organizer of a conference on human trafficking at Georgetown College, hopes will show Kentuckians it’s not just a problem overseas.
