Gov. Steve Beshear joined company and local officials today to announce A. Kayser Automotive Systems USA plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Fulton, creating 121 jobs and investing more than $17.5 million in the project. The company is a subsidiary of Germany-based A. Kayser Automotive Systems GmbH.

The operation will be Kayser’s first plant in the United States. The company’s decision to locate in Kentucky follows Gov. Beshear’s visit with Kayser officials during an economic development trip to Germany in January.

The Kentucky State Police has released the names of two police officers and a state trooper involved in a shooting in Fulton last Sunday

Trooper Mark Franklin, Fulton Police Department patrolman Douglass Love and South Fulton, Tennessee Police patrolman Jason Pearcey all fired their weapons at Keith Dildine after he shot at the officers during a 90-minute standoff at his apartment. None of the officers were injured, but Dildine was shot several times.  He later came out of the apartment without incident.

A Fulton County man is in a Memphis, Tennessee hospital following an exchange of gunfire with police late Sunday night.  Fulton and South Fulton city police, along with a Kentucky State Police trooper, responded to a 9-1-1 call of shots fired at a Fulton County apartment complex.  They found 56-year-old Keith Dildine barricaded inside his apartment refusing to come outside.  After a brief stand off, Dildine came out of the residence and fired at the responding officers.  The police returned fire, striking Dildine, who then went back into the apartment.

A morning traffic stop led to what seems to be a hostage situation in Fulton. Kentucky State Police spokesman Jay Thomas says after police stopped a Fulton man this morning he fled to an apartment on Vernon Avenue where he held a woman and two children for several hours.

A major candle manufacturer is establishing a new plant in Fulton, Kentucky, bringing 150 new full-time jobs to the city. MVP Group International is a candle and fragrance goods manufacturer based in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Commonwealth's town with the highest unemployment might see some job growth in the near future. 

Jobless rates have improved in 107 Kentucky counties, but not Jefferson. 

The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training released the latest unemployment numbers today. They show Jefferson County's jobless rate jumping from 8.1 percent in April to 8.6 percent in May. Most counties in the Louisville area saw similar increases.

Last May, the Jefferson County unemployment rate was 9.9 percent.

Elderly and Disabled Hopkins County residents can now opt out of firefighter dues permanently instead of notifying the county each year.

Volunteers with Fulton and South Fulton’s “Let’s Paint the Town” program are ready to begin the final summer of work. The community project began in May 2010 to revitalize the appearance of the Twin Cities to attract new businesses. Volunteers have met for two summers to restore buildings and plant landscaping.

Fulton resident Jeff Campbell has been involved with the project since it started. He says although progress revitalizing Fulton has been slow, the program has already seen some success.
