The state will begin compensating Kentuckians who serve as foster parents to children they’re related to after a federal court ruling last fall.

A committee has passed a bill that would allow state social workers to place children with adults who are not their blood relatives but have an "emotionally significant relationship" with the child.

A federal appeals court has ruled that Kentucky must pay relatives who foster a child just like it pays adults who are licensed foster parents.

This means relatives would receive payments until they obtain permanent custody.

Potential Adoptive and foster parents in the region will have access to some welcome resources in the coming weeks. Murray State University and a nationwide child advocacy group are hosting the Connect, Celebrate and Explore: Foster Care and Adoption Fair.
