Fort Campbell Soldier Arrested

A Fort Campbell soldier has been arrested in Georgia after a high-speed chase in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife. Army officials say they were responding to a report of a domestic dispute in on-base housing Friday when they discovered the body of the soldier’s wife. The suspect was apprehended after a chase involving Georgia State Police.  Fort Campbell officials say the suspect shot himself and was in critical condition Saturday evening. The names of the suspect and the victim are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Panetta Visits Fort Campbell

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the military will not be intimidated by the attacks on U.S. soldiers in the wake of the Quran burnings. He made the comments today during a visit to Fort Campbell, where hundreds of soldiers will deploy this year as a part of a new Afghanistan advisory mission. Panetta told troops the attacks on coalition forces by Afghan security forces or insurgents wearing Afghan uniforms were "isolated incidents." He says insurgents are using the attacks to undermine American forces because the Taliban is not effective at combat operations. Six U.S.

In Louisiana, the military has created a mini-Afghanistan. Except this one has crocs and Cajuns. 

NPR reports the central Louisiana facility is used to train soldiers how to train soldiers as the US lets Afghan troops take the lead. 

The region saw a great deal of storm damage, and there’s more on the way.

Defense Secretary to Visit Fort Campbell

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will visit Fort Campbell Friday to observe training and meet with soldiers and others.  He will watch predeployment training and medical response training and have a question-and-answer session. Panetta will also speak to 400 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division.  This is Panetta's first visit to Fort Campbell since taking office last July 1.

The 101st Airborne Division is Home

AP Report...

For the first time in two years, the entirety of the 101st Airborne Division is on post at Fort Campbell. The return of the last 186 troops of a combat aviation brigade from deployment in Afghanistan marks the first time that all units were on base together since 2010. The news comes as President Obama's plan to withdrawal some 33,000 troops from Afghanistan continues.
