Paducah has Barbecue on the River, Murray has Freedom Fest, Trigg County has the Ham Festival, so Marshall County is holding its inaugural signature event: The South's Great Lake Fish Festival, on September 19. On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with Elena Blevins, Marketing Director of the Kentucky Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau about partnering with FLW for this day of food, fishing and family fun, and more about the community branding campaign.

Over 300 fisherman from across the nation will be on Kentucky Lake this weekend for what organizers hope to be the largest college bass tournament of all-time.

The inaugural FLW college tournament is open to all eligible college teams, regardless of division or location. The event is free to any college team.

Murray State University will be represented by Seth Brock and Lance Freeman.

There’s probably as many or more bass being caught at night now as there are in the daytime because it’s been so ‘dadblamed’ hot. A lot of folks are waiting for the temperature to cool down into the low 80s or high 70s in the evening before they head out on the water. The lake level is holding at around 359 feet — if only because of the afternoon thunderstorms they’ve been having in Tennessee and north Alabama — and they’re not pulling much water at the dam.

Scott Ellison says conditions for fishing are improving and shares the history and controversy behind the Alabama Rig.

Well, the fishing has been as up and down as the stock market over the last few days. It perked up for a while, then got lackluster during the rainy period, and now is improving again. Really, it’s not bad considering how hot it is.

Scott Ellison

Hi, this is Scott Ellison with the weekly FLW Fishing Report. Well, this is the weekend when the Big Bass Tournament comes to town. The Walmart FLW will make a stop at Kentucky Lake, and the best bass fishermen in the land will go at it for the $100,000 first place prize.

Scott Ellison here with the weekly FLW Fishing Report. Hopefully the weather will continue to moderate and it will be more comfortable to stay out on the water longer.

Scott Ellison says fishing ranges from so-so to fairly good depending on what you’re trying to catch.

Colin Moore here, filling in for Scott Ellison with the FLW Weekly Fishing Report. Scott is on the road, tending to a tournament in Maryland, but wanted me to say hi for him and wish everybody good fishing.

As there hasn’t been enough rain to settle the dust, the lake is about three feet low and there’s no sign that it’s going to go up anytime soon. Still, the air temperature has moderated, the water level is staying fairly stable and the fishing has gotten a lot better for most species.
