Newberry, Kaler Visit DC to Meet with Energy Secretary

McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry and Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler were part of the McCracken County Chamber of Commerce delegation that met today with US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz in Washington, D.C.

The group discussed a long-term solution for private sector development and accelerating cleanup activities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site.

Conway: DOE Has Legal Obligations to Clean Up Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant

Attorney General Jack Conway says there could be legal ramifications if the Department of Energy fails to cleanup the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. 

Conway met with two senior Department of Energy officials earlier today to discuss cleanup at the site. The visit comes on the heels of a similar meeting between Gov. Steve Beshear and DOE Secretary Ernest Moniz.

Ky. Energy Secretary Hopeful for a Good Start on PGDP Deactivation This Year


After meeting Monday with new U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Len Peters said he is hopeful for a good start on deactivation of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant this year, with decontamination beginning in fiscal year 2015.

The United States Enrichment Corporation is in the shutdown process at the DOE-owned plant after failing to negotiate a new federal contract.

Beshear Calls Energy Sec. Meeting a “Productive Exchange" on PGDP

Gov. Steve Beshear met with new U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz Monday,  regarding the uncertain future of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and its 1,100 workers.

Beshear called his meeting with Moniz  a “productive exchange.”
