In the month of November, more than 23,000 people entered the 50-acre, $80-million park financed by Entrepreneur and Union City native Robert Kirkland.

Almost 10,000 people have visited the Discovery Park of America in Union City, Tenn., since its opening this month. But many of those visitors come on the weekends causing a long wait to enter the park.

Marketing Director Mary Nita Bondurant said while the staff is encouraging local visitors to buy tickets during the week when it’s not as busy, the wait is about average for similar attractions.

Union City Tennessee’s Discovery Park is flanked by two harvest-ready corn fields near a road bed that promises to be Interstate 69.  A 100-thousand-square-foot ultra-modern exhibit space anchors the park. At least 15 other buildings are on the park grounds including a working grist mill, train depot and restored century old chapel.
