Discovery Park of America is now home to a Titan One Missile. The missile was transported from Huntsville Space Center in Alabama to the Union City museum over the weekend.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 is marks the end of major hostilities of World War One. The following year, President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11th Armistice Day, now known as Veteran's Day. One of the most decorated U.S. Soldiers during The Great War was Tennessee native Sergeant Alvin York, who received a medal of honor for fearlessly charging a German machine gun nest in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Discovery Park of America's founder, Robert Kirkland, passed away this morning at 7:15 in his Union City residence at the age of 77. The park will be closed Wednesday for a ceremony titled "A Celebration-of-Life" for family and friends.

Union City’s $80 million Discovery Park of America has had a strong first year of operation, with more than 295,000 visitors so far.

In the month of November, more than 23,000 people entered the 50-acre, $80-million park financed by Entrepreneur and Union City native Robert Kirkland. 

Marketing Director Mary Nita Bondurant says the park is a popular spot for field trips. But the booming popularity opening week initially resulted in long lines at ticket counters.
