  New members of the Delta Regional Authority’s Leadership Advisory Council include Chris Wooldridge of the Murray State University Small Business Development Center. The Delta Leadership Advisory Council aims to bring together representatives from the 8 states in the DRA to promote economic development projects that will help create and retain jobs. Wooldridge was elected by fellow Delta Leadership Network members in Kentucky and confirmed by Delta Regional Authority leadership to serve a one-year term.

The $1.1 trillion Consolidated Appropriations Act 2017, that funds the government through September, contains funding for several projects in far west Kentucky. The Senate passed the bipartisan spending bill on Thursday. President Donald Trump signed the measure into law on Friday.

A riverport authority official in far west Kentucky is concerned with potential cuts to the Delta Regional Authority in President Donald Trump’s proposed budget. The DRA is a federal and state-funded partnership that assists in development projects in communities along the Mississippi River.

The Delta Regional Authority is investing more than $100,000 dollars in the Todd County Career Path Institute. The western Kentucky facility trains adults, college and high school students in welding, industrial maintenance and electrical networking. The money will go towards equipment for hands-on training.

Paducah mayoral candidate Brandi Harless was in Washington, D.C. this week with members of the Mississippi Delta Leadership Academy to press western Kentucky issues on national officials.  

22 Kentucky counties are considered within jurisdiction of the Delta Regional Authority, which provides economic and infrastructure support for local projects.  

Delta Entrepreneurship Network

Local entrepreneurs will have their shot at success next month as part of the Delta Entrepreneurship Network’s annual pitch competition. Held October 6 at Murray State University, the Delta Regional Authority-operated event gives area businesspeople a chance to present their ideas to a panel of judges, similar to the network television program, “Shark Tank.”

A federal-state business authority is calling for entrepreneurs to enter its pitch competitions this fall which includes one at Murray State University.

The Delta Regional Authority will hold six Delta Challenge pitch competitions throughout the 8 state Delta region.

Paducah Seeking Grant to Repair Downtown Buildings

The City of Paducah is seeking a Delta Regional Authority grant through the States’ Economic Development Assistance Program (SEDAP) for improvements to downtown buildings.

Paducah Planning Director Steve Ervin told the City Commission he was seeking the grant at its Tuesday meeting.

Mayors from cities along the Mississippi River are calling on Congress to increase U.S. Army Corps of Engineers funding to keep commerce flowing on the waterway.
