Market House Theatre in Paducah offers a new trimester of Footlights beginning January 9. The classes meet Saturday mornings and are open to kids in Pre-K through 12th grade. Participants in the elementary and middle school sessions produce a play on the theatre stage, while the high school troupe focuses on monologue and acting skills. 

Children ages 3 to 5 are invited to a “Walk on the Wild Side” nature program at the John James Audubon State Park in Henderson on Friday, January 8, at 10 a.m. The series of hour-long interactive programs helps kids discover nature through games, crafts, live animal visits, hikes, and songs. This program is titled “Groundhog Day Dilemma.” Registration is required.

The Golden Pond Planetarium at Land Between the Lakes presents “Let It Snow” tomorrow morning at 10. The holiday music spectacle transforms the full-dome planetarium into a virtual snowglobe, with classic Christmas songs from Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Burl Ives, Brenda Lee, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and more. 

Land Between the Lakes hosts its Audubon Christmas Bird Count this Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with an optional extension until 4:30 p.m. Birders of all experience levels are invited to help. Meet at the Nature Station. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars, field guides, and lunch. Registration is requested. 

The Hopkins County Madisonville Public Library offers an afternoon craft program for adults this Saturday from noon to 4 at the library. Participants make holiday gift bags and tags. The free program is open to adults only. 

An exhibit of paintings by Theresa Pfarr titled “Likeness” is on display in the Clara M. Eagle Upper Gallery at Murray State University. Pfarr’s work explores identity loss and redevelopment through the manipulation of surface texture and paint handling. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 4. The exhibit remains on display through February 12. 

The Paducah Cooperative Ministry is holding a capital campaign to finish constructing Fresh Start Village, a sheltered community of residential units for homeless women and children. A donor is matching cash donations up to $150,000 through December 31st. Details at

Lost But Loved Animal Rescue hosts "Pet Pictures with Santa" tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Murray Pet Resort and Spa. Proceeds help purchase a security camera system for the Calloway County Animal Shelter. Bring a 10 lb. bag of dog or cat food for rescue animals to be entered in a drawing. 

There’s a Community Messiah Sing-Along tonight at 7 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Martin, Tennessee. Singers and audience members are invited to attend. Dr. Mark Simmons directs the ensemble, and the accompanist is Dr. Elaine Harriss. Scores are available.
