Republican leadership from the Kentucky Senate are in western Kentucky this week for an annual retreat to prepare for the upcoming legislative session.  

Senate President Robert Stivers, President Pro Tem David Givens, Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer, Caucus Leader Dan Seum and Majority Whip Jimmy Higdon held a press conference Wednesday along with 2nd District Sen. Danny Carroll who lobbied for the caucus to be held in Paducah.

Kentucky Senate Majority Leadership members are holding their annual retreat in Paducah this year. 

The retreat will allow Senate Republicans a chance to discuss and prepare agenda and priorities for the upcoming legislative session in January.

A Republican state senator says he intends to file a bill that would permit a third-party to appeal a ruling that says Kentucky’s ban on same-sex marriages is unconstitutional.

Sen. Dan Seum says if Attorney General Jack Conway decides not to appeal Judge John Heyburn’s decision that nullifies the state’s ban on gay marriage, his bill would allow others to do so.

Kentucky’s top Republican lawmaker said pending legislation that would expand gaming across the Commonwealth will need strong, unified support.

Republican Senate President Robert Stivers told a group of Kentucky’s top business leaders this week that if backers of expanded gaming want the issue to finally pass, then they’ll have to present a united front.
