Assault Victim Says Basketball Player's Punishment is "Too lenient"

A Kentucky man run over by a Murray State basketball player in a Wal-Mart parking lot says he's angry about his attacker's proposed sentence. Jason Clement of Murray told WPSD that a 30-day jail sentence for Racers guard Zaveral "Zay" Jackson is too lenient. Jackson pleaded guilty earlier this month to wanton endangerment. He admitted to running down Clement and his wife September 9th. Clement says the fall left him with little mobility in that arm but has not been able to afford medical attention.

Hickman Man Leads Sheriff Deputies on Chase

A Hickman man is in Graves County Jail after shooting at a Sheriff’s deputy Saturday afternoon. Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says 35 year old Terry Patterson was wanted for a non-violent warrant when he shot at the deputy, then led him on a 90 mile per hour chase through Kaler, Kentucky. Redmon says Patterson then pulled into a driveway and barricaded himself in his car for an hour. He says Patterson eventually disarmed himself and was arrested.

Juvenile Justice Commissioner Says Minor Offenses Shouldn't Lead to Incarceration

The state'’s leading authority on juvenile justice says he would like to see status offenders kept out of incarceration facilities.

A status offense is something a youth gets in legal trouble for, but an adult wouldn'’t. Common status offenses are running away from home or skipping school.

Paducah Man Arrested for Arson

A Paducah man is in jail on first degree arson charges for allegedly starting a fire at the home of his estranged wife Wednesday night. Police arrested 44-year-old Norman Landers for violating a domestic violence order when he came to the house after the fire started. Police questioned Landers about the blaze after Fire Marshall Greg Cherry determined the fire’s origin was suspicious. Police say Landers later admitted to starting the fire and is being held in McCracken County Jail. No one was injured in the fire.

Murray State Basketball Player Arrested

A Murray State University basketball player was arrested yesterday after he allegedly struck two people with his vehicle intentionally. Murray Police Spokesman Scott Svebakken says Zaveral “Zay” Jackson faces two counts of first degree assault. Police arrested Jackson while responding to reports of an altercation in the Murray WalMart parking lot. MSU Athletic Director Allen Ward had no comment about Jackson’s arrest. Jackson is a sophomore at Murray and played in every game of last year’s 31-2 season.
