Regents Choose To Keep Presidential Search Confidential

Murray State University Board of Regents Chairman Constantine Curris says the board has come to a consensus that the presidential search should be confidential up until the final stages.

The regents discussed confidentiality at their annual retreat Thursday. Curris says the kind of candidate Murray State is looking for should be open to some exposure.

Outgoing Murray State University President Randy Dunn said this week the controversial decision not to renew his contract was the result of a difference in philosophy between him and Board Chairman Constantine Curris. Dunn's last day as MSU President is July 8th.

The MSU Board of Regents voted against renewing Dunn’s contract 7-4 in a surprise move during a regularly-scheduled meeting in March. The vote came after a social gathering at which a quorum of regents was present.

MSU Board of Regents, Search Committee to Meet Friday

The Murray State University Board of Regents will meet on campus Friday to appoint an interim president and begin the search for new one.

The meeting comes on the heels of a vote not to renew President Randy Dunn’s contract. The Kentucky Attorney General deemed a private gathering before the meeting illegal in March. Later, in May, the Board re-voted not to renew the contract.

Curris Announces MSU Presidential Search Committee

Murray State University Board of Regents Chairman Dr. Constantine Curris has announced the nine members to serve on a search committee for MSU’s next president. The board voted 7 to 4, twice, against extending current president Randy Dunn’s contract. The first vote in March followed a social gathering that was later deemed an illegal meeting by Kentucky’s Attorney General. The second vote came on May 10th, as described by Curris, to reinforce the board’s role to act in an open and transparent manner.

MSU's Dunn Selected to be Youngstown State's Next President

Murray State President Randy Dunn has been selected to be Youngstown State University's next president. The Youngstown State Board of Trustees authorized board Chair Sudershan Garg and Vice Chair John Jakubek to negotiate and execute an employment contract with Dunn. Garg emphasized that the appointment is not final until contract terms can be reached.

MSU Board of Regents Vote Again Against New Contract for Dunn

Murray State University’s Board of Regents Chairman Constantine Curris will begin the work of forming a search committee for a new MSU president in the coming weeks. The board voted Friday morning for a second time, 7 to 4, against extending President Randy Dunn a new contract. The second vote came after Kentucky’s Attorney General declared an illegal meeting occurred at social gathering for a majority of regents the night before the board’s first vote.

MSU Board of Regents Meeting; Possible Revote on Dunn's Contract & Closed Session Planned

Murray State University’s Board of Regents Chairman wants to vote again on President Randy Dunn’s contract on Friday. Board Chairman Constantine Curris released a statement Wednesday asking the board to vote again to reinforce the board’s responsibility to act in an open and transparent manner.

The board first voted against extending Dunn a new contract on March 15th following a social gathering at a regent’s home. The Kentucky Attorney General has since deemed the gathering, where a quorum was present and university business was discussed, an illegal board meeting.

Deckard Speaks Out About KY Attorney General Opinion on MSU Board's Social Gathering

Lexington Attorney, Jim Deckard stands by his request that the Murray State Board of Regents should declare votes cast the day after an illegal meeting null and void. Deckard requested the board take action in an initial complaint on March 22nd regarding a social gathering of six regents the night before the board’s quarterly meeting. Deckard, following a denial from MSU, issued an appeal to the Kentucky Attorney General on April 1st. The Attorney General declared the social gathering of a quorum of regents illegal because board business was discussed and there were no minutes taken at the illegal meeting.

Kentucky Attorney General Opinion: MSU Board of Regents Violated KY Open Meetings Law

Kentucky’s Attorney General says the Murray State Board of Regents violated Kentucky’s open meetings law when a quorum of the board attended a social gathering at the home of Regent Sharon Green on March 14th. Lexington Attorney Jim Deckard sought the opinion after board Chairman Constantine Curris, through an attorney, denied allegations of an illegal meeting.
