West Kentucky Riverports Get State Grants for Repairs

Four west Kentucky riverports are receiving most of about $400,000 in state grants to perform repairs to their facilities. The Paducah/McCracken County, Hickman/Fulton County, Henderson County, and Owensboro ports are matching the state money, most of which will go to dock and rail repair. Paducah/McCracken County is getting the largest share, with $150,000.

Beshear Asks Corps of Engineers to Increase Missouri River Flow

Governor Steve Beshear is joining officials from other states asking the Army Corps of Engineers not to restrict the flow of the Missouri River into the Mississippi. The Corps says the flow reduction is due to drought in the upper Missouri River.

Kentucky Chamber Lead Gambling Amendment Coalition

A newly-formed coalition of businesses, unions and education groups have teamed up to get a constitutional amendment for gambling on the ballot in Kentucky.

The group is called the Kentucky Alliance for Jobs. It's a 501(c)(4), meaning it can raise money and advertise to support casino gaming.

The alliance is led by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Dave Adkisson says the coalition is large and diverse, and the members don't always get along.

Business Group Touts Major Gambling Announcement

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon at the Capitol to make what they call a major announcement regarding support for a proposed constitutional legalized gambling amendment. The event is set for noon Central. Governor Steve Beshear says he's expecting a proposal to amend the state Constitution to allow casino-style gambling to be filed soon. He also says lawmakers still have plenty of time remaining in the legislative session to get it passed. The legislative session is scheduled to run into April.
