Humane Society CEO Wants Kentucky to Strengthen Cockfighting Law

The Humane Society of the United States wants Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo to strengthen the state’s cockfighting laws. 

 Humane Society CEO Wayne Pacelle’s push comes after a cockfighting ring was recently busted in McDowell, Kentucky. A USDA agent says the Big Blue Sportsman’s Club allegedly hosted illegal gambling ‘derbies’ of fighting chickens.

For the third time in as many months, leading Kentucky politicians find themselves addressing cockfighting.

A new federal case brings questions about the bloodsport to a top state Democratic lawmaker and puts the practice back into conversations about the U.S. Senate race.

Federal authorities filed charges against three Eastern Kentucky residents this week in a massive cockfighting ring run out of the Big Blue Sportsman’s Club in McDowell, Ky.

Tennessee Cock Fighting Bill Dead This Session

Legislation that makes cock fighting a felony in Tennessee is dead this session after failing to pass the Senate. Under the bill, a first offense for cock fighting would have remained a misdemeanor. But a second offense would be considered a felony punishable by six years in prison and a fine of up to $3,000.
