Kentucky courthouses are closed with their staffs are on furlough today. Today is the first of three state-wide courthouse closures this year as the state’s justice system struggles to balance its books. The General Assembly cut the judicial branch’s funding in the last budget by just over $25 million dollars. The next closure will be Sept. 4. The third court staff furlough day will be Mon., Oct. 15

A new plan could keep small town post offices open despite big service cuts in the U.S. Postal Service. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe says the plan would modify office hours in rural areas to match customer demand. 

Several roads in Murray and Calloway County will be closed tomorrow morning for the Murray Half Marathon. Runners  start at the Center for Health and Wellness on Poplar Street at 7 a.m. Traffic will be restricted in downtown Murray, Central Park, and on U.S. Hwy 641. Stretches of Main Street, Poplar, Bailey Road and Poor Farm road will also be closed. The Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare hosts the marathon to promote health awareness. Organizers expect traffic to return to normal after 11 a.m. Below is a complete list of the roads affected by the event:

The U.S. Post Office will close the mail distribution plant in Paducah sometime after May 15. The USPS announced the closure after a months long study on downsizing. The Postal Service is merging the plant’s operations with the Evansville, Indiana plant. Local American Postal Workers Union President Gerl McKinney says the loss of the Paducah facility will be bad for local businesses. He says,
