Murray State's Clara Eagle Gallery Director Colin Nesbit joined us during Sounds Good today to talk about the Holiday Art Auction coming up Friday, November 22nd. Bidding begins at 6:30 pm, the reception starts at 7:30. The gallery is on the 6th floor of the Doyle Fine Arts Building. The auction features original works from area artists, faculty, alumni and students – with proceeds funding scholarships and the visiting artist program.

Murray State hosts novelist Alana White reading from her fiction tomorrow night(Thursday, November 14, 2013)  at 7:30 in Clara Eagle Gallery. White resides in Nashville but has roots in our region.  Her latest book, "The Sign of the Weeping Virgin," is set at the height of the Italian Renaissance.


Colin Nesbit of Murray State's Clara M. Eagle Art Gallery joins Chad Lampe on Sounds Good to talk about the work of Tim Kowalczyk on display, called "Simlulacra: Ceramic Works." Simulacra is the plural for simulacrum, which means likeness or similarity, often tied to photorealism or pop art. Viewers of the gallery will recognize the objects on display as things other than porcelain construction despite the medium. The gallery is on display through October 18. See more on The Clara M. Artist Dawn Roe divides her time between Asheville, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida where she serves as Assistant Professor of Art at Rollins College. Her studio practice involves the singular and combined use of still photographs and digital video. An exhibit of her work titled "Goldfields" opens tonight (September 5) at Murray State's Eagle Gallery in the Doyle Fine Arts Building. Kate Lochte has more about it with Ms. Roe. Murray State's MFA Reading Series' fourth and final visiting author Davy Rothbart has achieved celebrity status for contributions to This American Life and for being interviewed by David Letterman and appreciated by Jon Stewart. This year a musical titled Found is premiering, based on Rothbart's decade of producing Found Magazine. He's also an essayist and memoirist. Some say he's a modern day Jack Kerouac for the rap generation. Rothbart presents Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Clara Eagle Gallery of Doyle Fine Arts on campus, a reading that's open to all. Kate Lochte asked Davy Rothbart about his work.

Chicago-based teacher, poet, singer, songwriter Larry O. Dean is an alumnus of the MFA program and opens its summer readings program at 3 p.m. Saturday in Clara M. Eagle Gallery on the 6th floor of Doyle Fine Arts.  His latest book is titled Brief Nudity.  He tells Kate Lochte how being a Poet-In-Residence in Chicago Public Schools is good for his writing practice and shares a few of his "people" poems.

Murray State English and Philosophy faculty member Carrie Jerrell is visits Kate on Sounds Good. recruiting for the English Student Organization’s poetry recitation event called “A Way With Words” on Monday, April 22, at 7:;30 p.m. in the Clara Eagle Gallery on campus.
