MSU's New Furniture Design & Woodworking Professor Showcases Work in Clara Eagle Gallery

Today is the last day of a two-artist show featuring artworks in wood and photographs in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. There's a talk by photographer Noah Doely at 4 p.m. with a show-closing reception following. So there are only a few hours left to see the exhibitions. A couple weeks ago, we met Doely on Sounds Good. Today, we meet Murray State's new assistant professor in furniture design and woodworking, Sarah Martin. She and Kate Lochte take a walk through her exhibition, titled "Sites" in the Gallery on the sixth floor of Doyle Fine Arts.

Photos Explore Timelessness in 'Above and Below' at MSU's Clara M. Eagle Gallery

Photographer Noah Doely's exhibition "Above and Below" shows in Murray State's Clara M. Eagle Gallery through November 7 along with works by Murray's new wood faculty person, Sarah Martin. On Sounds Good, we meet Doely, who teaches photography at the University of Northern Iowa. The images in Eagle Gallery create a scenes of peaceful quiet in its open space. Those which take the viewer into caverns, gazing at light streaming from above, convey timelessness.

'Savvy Storyteller' D'Souza Reads at Murray State's MFA Series

Former U.S. Peace Corps rural AIDS educator, Tony D'Souza is tonight's presenter for the Murray State MFA Residency Reading Series that's open to all at 7:30 in Clara Eagle Gallery.  His fictional works, like Mule: A Novel of Moving Weight grow from non-fictional stimuli, and have won him prestigious literary awards, national publication, and academic fellowships.

Acclaimed Nashville Writer Kicks Off MFA Reading Series

Two decades after his debut collection "Here We Are in Paradise" heralded Tony Earley as one of the most accomplished writers of his generation, his latest work coming out in August re-affirms his story-telling prowess. We meet Mr. Earley on Sounds Good today, in advance of his 7:30 p.m. Sunday presentation for the Murray State MFA Reading Series.

Acclaimed Poet Alan Shapiro Reads at Murray State

Highly lauded poet, Boston native, UNC-Chapel Hill Professor Alan Shapiro reads from his latest book at Murray State this Thursday (April 3) in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. Shapiro has won numerous awards for his work including two from the National Arts Foundation. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation. On Sounds Good, Shapiro reads from his work and talks about how he became a poet after his high school basketball career ended.

Artist Previews "Coming Dark" Gallery at MSU's Clara Eagle Gallery

Artist Bill Conger at WKMS

Artist Bill Conger presents "Coming Dark - Selected Works 2004 through 2014" at Murray State's Clara Eagle Gallery, through March. Peoria-based artist Conger uses mixed media to craft minimalist and haunting work, recollecting themes of love, memory and time. Colin Nesbit, Executive Director of the Clara Eagle Gallery also joins the conversation about Conger's upcoming exhibit.

Essayist Previews First Book at Murray State's MFA Reading Series

Essayist, journalist and translator Riley Hanick is Murray State's Watkins Chair in Creative Writing. Next Wednesday, January 8, he is among featured writers for the MSU/MFA in Creative Writing Reading Series. His work has appeared in The Sonora Review, Seneca Review, No Depression and other publications. Kate Lochte spoke with Hanick for Sounds Good to learn more about his first book.

YA Novelist and Poet Cristina Garcia Comes to MSU for Reading Series

The darkly comic novel King of Cuba is Cristina Garcia's latest work. Garcia  is one of the writers featured at next week's Murray State MFA in Creative Writing January Reading Series. She reads Tuesday, January 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Clara Eagle Gallery, sixth floor,  Doyle Fine Arts Building. Born in Havana, and raised in New York City, Garcia has written six novels; she's edited two anthologies; she's authored works for young readers; a collection of poetry, and a young adult novel.

Poet Laureate of Wisconsin Comes to Murray State for Reading Series

The new year opens next week with the Murray State Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program's first reading series. The readings are open to the public in Clara Eagle Art Gallery, sixth floor Doyle Fine Arts at Fifteenth and Olive Streets. We meet writer Max Garland who lives and teaches in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

MSU Holiday Art Auction Preview

Murray State's Clara Eagle Gallery Director Colin Nesbit joined us during Sounds Good today to talk about the Holiday Art Auction coming up Friday, November 22nd. Bidding begins at 6:30 pm, the reception starts at 7:30. The gallery is on the 6th floor of the Doyle Fine Arts Building. The auction features original works from area artists, faculty, alumni and students – with proceeds funding scholarships and the visiting artist program.
