A former Fort Campbell soldier has been convicted of possessing child pornography. Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says a Christian County jury found Michael Myers guilty on 12 counts and recommended he register as a sex offender for 20 years. Myers was indicted in 2010 after an undercover cybercrimes investigation in September 2009. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 5.


Two men with alleged ties to a Clarksville, Tennessee gang are facing five decades in prison after a Hopkinsville, Kentucky jury found them guilty of the 2008 murder of Shyarra Olavarria. Her remains were found in a remote area of Christian County in May of that year.

The black patch tobacco wars of the early 20th century pitted farmer against farmer as a group of men sworn to secrecy used destructive tactics to coerce collective action. Hopkinsville’s Pennyroyal Area Museum commemorates the war with several activities starting Friday (September 21). Official Historian for Hopkinsville and Christian County William T. Turner recounts the story of the Tobacco War  in conversation with Kate Lochte. 

High levels of run-off pollution in a Christian County river that empties into Lake Barkley has officials considering a fertilizer ban there. The Kentucky New Era reports that’s one of the options federal environmental authorities are looking at if the Little River isn’t cleaned of agricultural run-off pollution.  

Industrial Hemp in the Jackson Purchase

The Kentucky Hemp Museum is looking to make the Jackson Purchase its new home. The museum, which was previously located in Lexington now hope to settle in Christian County, once hotbed of industrial Hemp Growth. WKMS’s Drew Adams spoke to Kentucky Hemp Museum Director Katie Moyer about the move to the Purchase, the uses for hemp and why it’s different from its psychoactive cousin, marijuana.
