Affordable Internet Coming for Caldwell, Lyon Residents

Caldwell and Lyon county residents will soon be able to purchase affordable high-speed Internet.

The two Kentucky counties have received a grant from the Delta Regional Authority to improve Internet service in underserved areas.

Caldwell County School District Delays Increased Dropout Age

Caldwell County School officials are waiting to increase the district's minimum dropout age because the district is not prepared to implement a program to prevent students from dropping out past the age of 16.

More than 100 districts have increased their dropout age to 18 voluntarily, in part, to receive a $10-thousand incentive from the Commonwealth.

Caldwell Co. Crash Blocks Traffic

A multi-vehicle accident on I-69 involving a semi-truck has blocked traffic around the crash site. Southbound and westbound traffic is being detoured at Exit 12 through Princeton. The delay and detour are expected to last until around 9 a.m.

Lyon County Investigate Child Death

Kentucky State Police are looking into the death of an Eddyville two year old following an accident Friday. Charles Bobinsky was riding with his grandfather on a skid steer loader when he fell off, receiving a massive head injury.

Citizens Group Recommends Caldwell County Smoking Ban

A citizens group says the Caldwell County Fiscal Court should consider a county-wide smoking ban. The CaldWELL Committee surveyed around 300 people in the county on health issues. The survey showed the top issue was banning smoking in public places. Caldwell County Judge-Executive Brock Thomas says the fiscal court will study the issue before they decide to take any action.

KY airports receive federal grants for upgrades

Princeton’s airport is among the nine across Kentucky are receiving a share of grants totaling $2 million from the Federal Aviation Administration.  Governor Steve Beshear announced the grants Thursday.  The Princeton-Caldwell County Airport will receive $105,000 for runway, taxiway, and runway lighting improvements.  Beshear says the money will help keep the state's airports safe.

Caldwell Co. Animal Control Officer Faces Criminal Charges

The Caldwell County Animal Control Officer faces arraignment next week on charges of abuse of public trust and tampering with public records. The Madisonville Messenger reports the county fiscal court placed Abigail Tucker on suspension without pay last week.
