Trigg Co Hospital applies for $500,000 grant

Trigg County’s Hospital is finalizing building plans to apply for a 500-thousand dollar state grant to assist with construction. The Community Development Block Grants are awarded in January to organizations that serve populations where 51% of residents fall at or below the poverty level. Hospital CEO Alisa Coleman says the money would go toward construction of a new surgical suite, expanding the rehab project, and renovating an existing church building at the hospital.

Murray-Calloway Chamber Among Chamber of the Year Award Recipients

Murray Calloway County's Chamber of Commerce is the best in nation in its category according to the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. Murray-Calloway Chamber beat out the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce in Anderson, South Carolina, for the $500,000 revenue and under category.

TVA electricity: winter sales down, summer sales up

A 5 percent increase in electricity sales from hot weather this summer has boosted the Tennessee Valley Authority’s profits this quarter. But it wasn’t enough to offset the 5.9 percent drop that came with last winter’s mild patterns. TVA officials couldn't say whether they'd increase power rates at the start of the new fiscal year in October until after its board meets later this month.

Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend

Tennesseans doing back-to-school shopping have the opportunity to stretch their dollars during this weekend’s annual sales tax holiday.  It started at 12:01 this morning and ends at one minute before midnight Sunday. Sales tax-exempt merchandise includes computers, clothing and an array of school supplies. The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s website has details for merchants and shoppers on exactly what items are tax-free.
