Paducah Riverfront Project Groundbreaking

The Paducah Riverfront Development Project breaks ground today after several years of delays. The ceremony is at 11 am in Schultz park, and will celebrate the launch of the project. The PRDP was delayed several times after endangered mussel species were found at the proposed locations. The decision to move forward comes after a recent ecological impact report came back clear for the current location. Paducah Mayor Bill Paxton said in August that construction would likely begin early next year.

Trover Health System Joins Baptist Health

Trover Health System is now Baptist Health Madisonville. The name change is official Thursday as the healthcare provider joins the Louisville-based family of hospitals. Baptist Health Vice President of Planning and Development Andy Sears says it means the network now owns eight hospitals.

Honeywell Sets Potential June Plant Restart Date

Honeywell officials say they could restart production at the Metropolis, Illinois nuclear fuel refinery next June. The plant shut down in July this year after a Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspection found a need for safety upgrades. The move laid off 212 union workers. Honeywell spokesman John McCarthy says a staff of a little over a hundred remains at the facility. Plant officials hope to begin recalling workers for retraining and certification in April.

Mediation Session for CCC Embezzlement Postponed

A mediation session stemming from the embezzlement of 230 thousand dollars from the Paducah – McCracken County Convention Center has been postponed. The Paducah Sun reports the mediation will decide between a settlement or litigation to recover embezzled funds. CCC Chairman Phil McIntosh says the mediation involves several parties who may bear some responsibility for the scheme. McIntosh says the board and its attorneys are trying to reschedule the meeting for when all involved parties can attend.

Berry Plastics to Reopen in Madisonville

Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the reopening of Berry Plastics Corporation in Madisonville. The move creates more than 400 full-time jobs. Beshear says nearly $100 million is being invested in the plastic packaging manufacturer.
