Jones Company CBR Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

College Book Rental Company, LLC, (CBR) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The case filed October 4, 2012, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle Tennessee District of Tennessee petitions relief of approximately $15,036,951.93 in debts. Fifteen million dollars of that claim are for money loaned.

10 West Tennessee Industrial Parks Declared Foreign Trade Zones

The federal government has approved 10 industrial parks in West Tennessee for designation as foreign trade zones. The U.S. Foreign Trade Zone Board issued the decision for the Port of Cates Landing in Lake County and other industrial parks in Dyer, Obion, Gibson and other west Tennessee counties.

NRC Gives Honeywell Plant Safety Improvement Plan

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has outlined safety improvements needed at the Honeywell nuclear refinery plant in Metropolis before it can reopen. NRC inspectors found earlier this year that the plant did not have proper bracings and support to withstand a major earthquake or tornado. After the inspection, the plant shut down operations, laying off over 220 union workers. Since that time Honeywell and the NRC have been negotiating a plan to upgrade the facility.

Cates Landing Port to Open in 2013

Northwestern Tennessee's long-planned Cates Landing Mississippi river port is set to open in early spring. Tri-County Port Authority Chair Jimmy Williamson says final site work at the Lake County port begins in November after storm debris from 2011 flooding is cleared from the river. Williamson says the port will bring heavy use from the commercial barge industry to northwest Tennessee.

Ky. Trio Charged with Stealing Trade Secrets

Three men charged with stealing trade secrets from a Hopkinsville company who tried to use the information as leverage with a competitor are set for arraignment Nov. 15 in Paducah. A federal grand jury indicted Phillip Groves, Gregory Wampler and Eric Tinderholt this week. The men are charged with using USB drives to steal thousands of files from White Drive Products in 2007 and 2008. The jurors say the men went to another hydraulic motor maker and used the files to get jobs.

Daviess County Business Expands

Valley Truck Equipment LLC will triple its workforce and improve its facilities in Daviess County. Governor Steve BeShear announced Thursday that the Utica business will expand adding 12 jobs and making $678,000 in improvements. Valley Truck Equipment began business in 2009 during the beginning of the economic downturn. Yet it has continued to thrive throughout the recession. The company sells, installs and repairs a variety of equipment for vehicles and currently has six employees.

Westlake Chemical Company is increasing their investment in their Calvert City plant by more than $200 million. Westlake Chemical is an international petrochemical and polymer producer. The Calvert City plant employs about 400 people.

TeleTech Revises Timeline for New Call Center

The opening of TeleTech’s Hopkinsville call center has been pushed back with no definitive date in sight. The company had announced the facility was supposed to be up and running this fall.

Christian County Economic Development Council Director Mitch Robinson tells The Kentucky New Era TeleTech is still trying to find a customer for the call center. He says the company was talking to three or four prospective customers but none committed.  TeleTech says it still plans to open the Hopkinsville call center, which could create 700 new jobs.
