Kentucky’s Chamber of Commerce supports the Commonwealth’s new education standards despite a 30%

decline in assessment scores released last week. Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson says education officials expected lower scores because of more rigorous standards that were established after the legislature passed sweeping education reform in 2009. Adkisson says the scores, while accurate, shouldn’t be scoffed at.

Morgan Keegan Settlement Checks on the Way

The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions says checks from the recent Morgan Keegan settlement will be mailed today to investors who filed an approved claim. The fund administrator, A.B. Data, will issue 1,930 checks totaling just over $4.5 million to Commonwealth investors.

PED Says 450 Jobs Coming to Paducah

Paducah Economic Development officials say they've signed a deal that will bring 450 jobs to the area. Development President Chad Chancellor tells The Paducah Sun the agency has an agreement with Colorado-based Teletech Holdings, which has promised 450 call center jobs that have an average wage of $9.50 an hour.
