Three Jones-Owned Companies File for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Three more companies owned by Murray businessman Chuck Jones have entered into bankruptcy proceeding.

Jones’ joint venture with business partner David Griffin, Blackrock Investments, LLC, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Monday in Nashville. On Oct. 27, Integrated Computer Solutions and Southeastern Book Company, also filed for Chapter 7, in Paducah Bankruptcy Court. Chapter 7  means that the companies will liquidate and eliminate most unsecured debts.

Hostess bankruptcy will close Mayfield depot

The closing of the major baked goods provider Hostess is leaving employees in our region out of work. The Irving, Texas based company and maker of twinkies and wonder bread is closing plants, laying off more than 18,000 workers and putting its brands up for sale.

College Book Renter Reduces Size as Part of Chapter 11 Reorganization

Murray-based College Book Renter is downsizing as part of its Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization. College Book Renter is one of many companies owned by Murray businessman Chuck Jones and partner David Griffin, an Arkansas-based businessman.

Bankruptcy Trustee Robert Waldschmidt says CBR has set up a temporary smaller location, after abandoning its much larger facility south of town. Waldschmidt says that building was too big and too expensive to operate.

Tax Amnesty Deadline Approaching

The deadline is nearing for delinquent Kentucky taxpayers to take advantage of an amnesty period. Kentucky officials say this is the first amnesty period in 10 years and allows people to pay taxes that are due without paying fees or penalties and having the interest reduced by half.

Western Kentucky Counties Moving Toward Work Ready Status

Several western Kentucky counties are moving toward Work Ready Community status. McCracken and Christian counties have joined Union County in receiving the Work Ready Community in Progress designation from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.
