Boone County Runner Recalls Boston Marathon Bombings

A Boone County man who is back home in Kentucky after competing in the Boston Marathon said there was a strange silence immediately after the first bomb went off Monday.

Kevin Dobson of Hebron said he finished the race about 90 minutes before the initial explosion. He was about two blocks away from the site where the blast occurred.

Southeast Missouri State University provost Dr. Ron Rosati was one of at least five Cape Girardeau-area runners who raced in Monday’s Boston Marathon. Tragedy struck the race when two explosive devices killed three people and injured more than 170.

Officials at the Illinois Marathon in Champaign and Urbana say they will meet Wednesday to talk about security ahead of their April 27 event after explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Former Murray State student and Kenya native Wesley Korir won the Boston Marathon today. Korir finished the race with a time of 2 hours 12 minutes and 40 seconds. He attended Murray State before transferring to Louisville and graduating with a biology degree. Korir will receive a $150,000 prize for his victory.
