Tennessee named 2014 Economic Development "State of the Year"

A national business publication has named Tennessee the economic development “state of the year” for the second year in a row.

Business Facilities awards the designation to states leading the nation in economic development, infrastructure and education since 2007.  Tennessee is the first state to receive the award in consecutive years, previous winning in 2013 and 2009.

Tennessee Opens Four Overseas Offices to Focus on Exports


Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and the Department of Economic and Community Development announced Monday that the state is opening four international offices that will focus on increasing exports from the state. The new development offices will be in Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany and China.

ECD Commissioner Bill Hagerty says this step is imperative if Tennessee wants to access untapped markets. The overseas offices will help small and medium sized businesses navigate the exporting process by providing market analysis, sales and marketing planning, identification of distribution partners and company matchmaking free of charge.

Tennessee Named a Top State for Business

Chief Executive magazine has named Tennessee one of the four top states for business.  Tennessee ranked fourth in the annual ratings for the second straight year. Others in the top five were Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Indiana.  Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development commissioner Bill Hagerty says the state continuously works to create and maintain a business friendly environment that encourages companies to grow and invest in Tennessee.
