Search and rescue teams have recovered the body of a Southern Illinois man who went missing from his boat on Sunday. Ballard County Emergency Management Director Anita Bugg says a tow boat operator last night spotted the body of 43-year-old Robert Goins on the Mississippi River in Hickman County. The search for Goins started after his empty Jon boat was found on the Ohio River Sunday night.
The search resumed this morning for a missing fisherman in the Ohio River along the bank of Kentucky’s Ballard County. County Emergency Management Director Anita Bugg tells WKMS that teams had halted their search at midnight. She says the fisherman’s empty Jon boat was found yesterday going in circles in the river between mile markers 971 and 973. The emergency management director says identity of the boat’s operator is known but is not being released. Searchers include the U.S. Coast Guard and Kentucky and Illinois law enforcement.
After several years of planning, Ballard and Carlisle County residents will have access to their own library. The Ballard-Carlisle Library has opened with funds supplied by the Ballard Fiscal Court. WKMS’s Shelly Baskin spoke with Librarian Sonya Mainord about the services the new library will provide for patrons.
