Purchase Area Avoids Major Storm Damage

The Purchase Area avoided major damage from a large storm system that proved fatal in other parts of the Southeast yesterday.

Straight line winds caused damage to structures in Obion County and downed trees and power lines were reported in Ballard, McCracken, Ohio, and Union Counties, but no injuries have been reported in the WKMS listening area.

Yesterday’s storm system spawned tornadoes in Arkansas and led to the death of one person in Arkansas, one in Alabama.

Community Health Impact: Shawnee Fossil Plant

The Kentucky Environmental Foundation has released its Health Impact Assessment for Paducah's Shawnee Fossil Fuel Plant. The report comes as the Commonwealth braces for new EPA regulations on coal plant emissions.

Storm Update 8:30 a.m.

Storm Damage in Ballard County

Storm damage this morning has been mostly contained to Ballard and Hopkins Counties in Western Kentucky.  Numerous buildings were damaged or destroyed as high winds and an unconfirmed tornado made its way through Kevil during the six o’clock hour. Ballard County Emergency Management Director Anita Bugg says there were no injuries or fatalities, however damage is extensive.
