Rep. Yonts Unhappy With TVA Board Meeting Transparency

State Representative Brent Yonts (D-Greenville) has sent a letter to the President of the Tennessee Valley Authority voicing his dissatisfaction with the transparency of the company’s decisions. 

Yonts attended a November meeting of TVA Board members to give testimony on the then-proposed closure of two units at the Paradise Steam plant in Muhlenberg County.

Grand Jury Set for Third Day of Testimony on McCracken Zoning Issue

The special prosecutor handling allegations of zoning misconduct in McCracken County confirms that a grand jury will convene Friday for a third day of testimony.

Commonwealth attorney G.L. Ovey says he will be in court Friday at 10 a.m., but could not confirm any other details of the grand jury proceedings.

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo Leaning Towards Medical Marijuana Legalization

A leading Kentucky politician is weighing the idea of legalizing medical marijuana in the state. 

House Speaker Greg Stumbo said today he's leaning toward supporting the use of medicinal marijuana and that the topic is worth debating. Legislation to legalize medical marijuana has been introduced in the General Assembly in the past but has never received the support needed to pass.

Stumbo raised the issue after Attorney General Jack Conway sent an advisory letter to Governor Steve Beshear, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer and other state leaders to clarify current law related to marijuana’s cousin, hemp.

Mike Miller Ethics Complaint Referred To Attorney General

Controversy over allegations that Marshall County’s Judge-Executive signed documentation stating a county employee had been laid off when he’d actually retired has made its way to Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. Marshall’s Fiscal Court met Tuesday to approve an outside report by Louisville attorney Kent Wicker that alleges Mike Miller signed the paperwork that could allow the former part-time county employee to receive unemployment benefits.

Conway Asks DOE for More Funds on PGDP Site Cleanup

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says U.S. Department of Energy officials will request an additional $35 million for cleanup of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion site, bringing the total spent for Fiscal Year 2014 to $177 million. 

Conway told members of Paducah’s Community Task Force today that Deputy DOE Secretary Daniel Poneman informed him of the request at their meeting in Washington on July.  However, Conway says he doesn’t think the money allocated so far is enough.

McConnell, Grimes Confirm Appearances at Fancy Farm

Sen. Mitch McConnell and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes have both confirmed they will speak at this year’s Fancy Farm Picnic in Graves County.

The event will mark the first face-to-face confrontation between the two since Grimes, a Democrat, declared her candidacy for McConnell's seat earlier this month.
