Murray Art Guild Seeks Local Artists for 'Visual Evidence'

Murray Art Guild is calling for entries for its 26th annual exhibition celebrating local and regional contemporary artists. MAG Director Debi Danielson joins Kate Lochte for more about Visual Evidence 2014 - the entry deadline is Wednesday, February 19. The opening reception is March 15.

Artist Bill Conger presents "Coming Dark - Selected Works 2004 through 2014" at Murray State's Clara Eagle Gallery, through March. Peoria-based artist Conger uses mixed media to craft minimalist and haunting work, recollecting themes of love, memory and time. Paducah School of Art & Design Postpones Holiday Art Sale

Update: The WKCTC Community Chorus is canceled for Sunday, December 8. The Art Sale may open at some point during the week.

The Paducah School of Art & Design have postponed their art sale until next weekend due to inclement weather. Their annual Student and Faculty sale showcases work done in the program, with a small portion of the sale benefiting the school.

Kate Lochte speaks with Paul Aho, Dean of the Paducah School of Art & Design about the activities.

Joe Castillo Demonstrates 'Visual Magic' with "SandStory"

The Marshall County Arts Commission presents "SandStory" with Joe Castillo this Saturday (October 19th) at 7 p.m. in the Kenneth Shadowen Performing Arts Center of Marshall County High School in Benton. Artist Dale Leys Exhibits 'A 40 Year Retrospective'

Murray State art professor and local artist Dale Leys joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to talk about his exhibition titled, "Dale Leys: A 40 Year Retrospective," opening at The Yeiser Art Center, Maiden Alley Cinema, and Ruth Baggett's Gallery 1025 this weekend (October 5, 2013), through November 2. The works display Leys' live and experience as an artist living and teaching in western Kentucky and his travels abroad over the decades. The Paducah Wastelanders Summertime 2013 Exhibit opens with a reception Saturday, June 22, from 5-8PM and closes with a reception Saturday, June 29, from 5-8PM at 950 Park Avenue, Paducah. Exhibiting artists include E.J. Abell, Mark Donham, Nancy Flowers, Juanita Gilliam, Kristi Hanson, LaNelle Mason, Jane Viterisi, Ginger Adams, Bill Ford, and Joe Viterisi. Joy Thomas on Painting Professional Portraits

Murray-based portrait artist Joy Thomas has captured the likeness of members of the community and leaders in government and business. Some of her commissions include the official portrait of Secretary of the US Navy, Richard Danzig; New York Jets owner, Robert Wood Johnson; and recently, John E. Bryson, the 37th US Secretary of Commerce. Her work has been on exhibit across the country, featured in magazines, and has won several awards, including first place in "The Best Paintings of 2000" competition by The Artist's Magazine. In 2006, she published The Art of Portrait Drawing, which is available on Amazon. She came to our studio to speak with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good about her work.

“A Futile Armada” at Yeiser Art Center

Paducah’s Yeiser Art Center opens a solo exhibition of Southern Indiana artist Rob Millard-Mendez later this month. Much of the sculpture in his show harkens back to his youth onboard his father’s fishing boat in Massachusetts.  Millard-Mendez blends a wry sense of humor with an unusual amount of depth in his work. Drew Adams speaks with Mendez about his work and sense of humor.
