A bill that would overhaul the University of Louisville’s Board of Trustees — just as Gov. Matt Bevin did last summer — is nearing final passage through the General Assembly.

The state Senate has passed a bill addressing Gov. Matt Bevin’s overhaul of the University of Louisville board of trustees in an attempt to protect the school’s accreditation.

Lawmakers are still working to address Gov. Matt Bevin’s executive order that attempted to overhaul the University of Louisville’s governing board, though a scheduled hearing of the fix was delayed Wednesday afternoon.

At U of L, Losing Accreditation Would Mean Major Peril

If the University of Louisville lost its accreditation, it would likely shut down — or at least cease to exist as you know it.

Mayfield’s Mid-Continent University will find out in the coming weeks whether or not it will receive reaccreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and School after being placed on warning status last year.

If an institution loses its accreditation it will no longer qualify for federal student aid.

Graves County’s Mid-Continent University named William Drake Jr. as its senior vice president today.

Drake served as Kentucky’s Midway College president for a decade before operating his own consulting firm. Mid-Continent president Robert Imhoff says Drake will help the university meet federal government and accrediting agency regulations.

Three Regional Schools Get or Renew Accreditation

Three area school systems have achieved voluntary school accreditation. Graves County Schools and Marshall County Schools have first-time accreditation from the AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). McCracken County Schools renewed its accreditation.
