Merryman House Reaches Out to End Domestic Abuse

Merryman House Executive Director Mary Foley heads up a team offering residency and outreach services to meet the needs of victims of intimate partner abuse and their dependents as they strive to live free of violence in their home. It’s not unimaginable and Kate Lochte find out more with Foley on Sounds Good. The Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center was founded in Paducah in 1978 by a group of volunteers committed to ending domestic violence in the community. See more at MerrymanHouse.org.

Prescription Drug Summit draws Kentucky Leaders

Top Kentucky health leaders and lawmakers trying to end multistate prescription drug trafficking and abuse are meeting in Florida this week.  The National R-X Drug Abuse Summit runs from tomorrow until Thursday in Orlando.  The event is organized by the eastern Kentucky anti-drug group Operation UNITE.  It will feature remarks by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin and U.S. “Drug Czar” R.

Lawmakers Consider Adult Abuse Registry

The Kentucky House of Representatives has endorsed the creation of an adult abuse registry.
The bill that would create that registry has been a priority of lawmakers for years, but funding hasn’t been there. But this year, Governor Steve Beshear allocated funds for the registry in the budget. Representative Ruth Ann Palumbo is the bill’s sponsor, and has supported the idea for the past several years. The measure would list anyone convicted of elder abuse on the new registry, which Palumbo says is key.
