About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Good Read: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

Age Range: 12 and up

We continue our occasional series previewing good reads for young adults from Katherine Farmer, Coordinator of the Racers Children's Preview Collection at Murray State University. This week's recommended read is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, by Benjamin Saenz, winner of the 2013 Stonewall Book Award, Printz Honor, YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults, and Pura Belpre Author Award. It's a lyrical novel about family and friendship that critics and readers have called "tender, thought provoking, and breathtaking."

Landee Bryant on Maiden Alley Cinema's Digital Conversion

Maiden Alley Cinema is seeking funds for their digital conversion campaign. Mandatory digital conversion is happening across the country, effectively ending the era of 35mm films. For smaller, independent theaters, purchasing new equipment and replacing the projection set-up is costly, and in Maiden Alley's case, is $90,000, half of the annual operating budget. MAC's executive director Landee Bryant speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about the change, and their Kickstarter campaign to meet the goal.

Youth Report: Not So Fast, All About LBL's Turtle Derby

Earlier this month, over 16 million viewers tuned in to watch the 139th annual Kentucky Derby. To celebrate the event, the Nature Station at Land Between the Lakes held their own, much slower race: the Kentucky Turtle Derby. WKMS Youth Reporter Aaron Sikkel covered the event and sat down with Naturalist Aviva Yasgur to learn about how turtles contribute to the region's ecosystem. This article features the full version of the interview.

Special thanks to Aaron's mom, Claire Fuller, for coordinating the interview and taking photos. If you are interested in getting involved in the WKMS Youth Radio Project, check out our page with more info, here.
