Sounds Good

We've met Jenny Bowker, wife of the former Australian Ambassador to Egypt, who initiated introducing Egyptian craftsmen's quilts to the world. We've spoken with Meredith Schroeder who co-founded the American Quilters Society and this year is being inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame. Today, Kate Lochte brings an interview with the person who directs and organizes the American Quilters Society Show and Contest, which starts Wednesday at the Convention Center in Paducah. She opened by asking Bonnie Browning how many "hats" she actually wears in her work. 

One of the region's first outdoor music festivals is set for tomorrow at Murray's Playhouse in the Park. Two PIP volunteers, Erica Mehta and Stephen Keene, joined Sounds Good to speak about "Pickin' for the Playhouse." Playhouse in the Park Community Theatre in Murray hopes to renovate its restroom facilities and lobby with proceeds from a bluegrass/Americana festival Saturday, April 20, featuring a bill of five performances from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. See more at the Playhouse in the Park website.

Cadiz Rotary Auction Chair Dr. Shae Godwin updates us on the final day of the fundraiser seeking to raise $200,000 for the youth and senior citizens of Trigg County. Every year, Trigg County Rotarians raise money for youth and senior activities in the community, including the Trigg County Ambulance Service Toys for Tots, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Senior Nutritional Assistant Program, etc. Learn more about the auction and how to give at the Cadiz Rotary website.

We continue our occasional series previewing good reads for young adults from Katherine Farmer, Coordinator of the Racers Children's Preview Collection at Murray State University. This week's recommended read is Dodger, by Terry Pratchett, a 2013 Printz Honor recipient for young adults that The New York Times describes as "a masterwork from a treasure and hero of a writer... that will delight you."

This weekend, the "feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia," are on stage at Paducah's Market House Theatre's production of "The Hallelujah Girls", a joyful comedy written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, authors of "The Dixie Swim Club". Yesterday, Kate Lochte spoke with "Hallelujah Girls" director Bonnie Daniels.

The 2013 LowerTown Arts and Music Festival is just around the corner and Amy Sanders of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra's staff shares the rundown on the music line-up during Sounds Good. The festival runs from May 17-19 on 7th and Madison in Paducah. MSU Theatre presents Oliver Goldsmith's "She Stoops to Conquer or The Mistakes of a Night" this weekend in Robert E. Johnson Theatre. The production is an Irish comedy by Oliver Goldsmith, about a young lady posing as a serving girl to win the heart of a shy young gentleman. Deceits stack up into hilarious twists and turns over the course of a single evening. Faculty director Matthew Crider previews the show on Sounds Good.

Purchase Area Development District's Emily Clime joins us for the second hour of Sounds Good with information about the Purchase Area Senior Games, May 6th through the 10th, the first step in qualifying for the Kentucky State Senior Games in Frankfort in September.
