Sounds Good

11 am - 1 pm Weekdays

About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Marshall County Native Makes Music in Nashville's Indie Scene

We continue our occasional series about young artists whose foundations are in western Kentucky but whose work is bringing them success in larger market areas. We've visited with Vic Mazzone in Los Angeles and Candra Kennedy in Philadelphia. This time we go to Nashville for a profile on an indie artist who was born in Murray, raised in Marshall County. Jordan Hamlin is multi-instrumentalist in Nashville's indie music scene.  She tours with Katie Herzig, Lucy Wainwright Roche, and others.

Laura and Lera on Puppies Sound Good

Two adorable terrier mixes, Laura and Lera came up to the station for Puppies Sound Good! Every second Wednesday of the month, Kathy Hodge of the Calloway County Humane Society brings up puppies looking for homes. This month: Laura and Lera, part of a litter of five girls, described as looking like a little bit of everything, but mostly terrier. They have big paws, so we think they'll grow up to be medium-sized adult dogs. If you are interested in adoption, please visit their website: www.humanesocietyofcallowaycounty.org.

West Kentucky Unschooler Experiences Success in the Arts, Formal Education

We continue celebrating West Kentucky raised individuals who are succeeding in the arts in major markets with a profile on Candra Kennedy, who also goes by CW Kennedy or just plain "Kennedy" in Philadelphia.  Last year a Kennedy play was one of Philadelphia Inquirer critic Wendy Rosenfeld's top 5 picks of the Philly Fringe Festival which included about 260 plays.  Kennedy grew up unschooled/homeschooled K-12 in the Lowes Area of Graves County.  Unschooling is a variation of homeschooling that is more student-led and not curriculum driven.  Kennedy also performed with the Paducah Symphony Youth Chorus, studied Suzuki violin, performed with the MSU Orchestra, studied dance with Karen Balzer and performed with the Footlights Troupe of the Markethouse theatre.

Credit today.ucla.edu

Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA's Geffen School of Medicine and author, Dr. Gary Small is going against the widely accepted theory that Alzheimer's disease is an unavoidable consequence of aging. Dr. Small's argument is to be found in his book, The Alzheimer's Prevention Program. The core elements in his seven day plan include memory training, food that promotes a healthy brain, the importance of aerobic and strength exercise, managing stress and maintaining strong emotional connections.
