About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

"All my life I've been sick and tired. Now I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." - Fannie Lou Hamer

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer, a campaign to open the polls to African-American voters in Mississippi, which became a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights era. The summer marked a turning point in ending white supremacy in the state and decades of isolation in the Deep South for black voters ahead of the 1964 elections. Commentator and Murray State history professor Dr. Brian Clardy reflects back on Freedom Summer and its legacy 50 years later.

Earlier this month, Georgia lawmakers passed a sweeping gun bill, known as the "guns everywhere bill" allowing licensed owners to carry firearms in many churches, bars, and government buildings. One of the provisions allows school districts to let teachers carry guns. Commentator Celia Brewer draws on a personal experience when living in New Orleans to express her concern over expanding gun rights.

Paducah Beer Werks Logo

Today on Sounds Good, we meet Todd Blume, the co-owner and brewer of Paducah Beer Werks, set to open this fall in Paducah. Located in the old Greyhound Bus station at 301 N. 4th Street, Blume is converting the space into a fully-functional craft brewery, while keeping some of the station aesthetic and artwork. He's in the discovery process of determining the palate of Paducah and aims to start with four beers, some seasonals, and eventually partnering with local restaurants. Hear the conversation:

[Slideshow] Puppies Sound Good: Meet Dallas and Fancy

Today we met two energetic boxer/terrier mix puppies on Sounds Good. Dallas (brown and white) and Fancy (black and white) are seven-week old brother and sisters who were rescued from a bad situation and are available for adoption at the Humane Society of Calloway County. You'd never guess they came into the world in a negative way because they are both very sweet, playful and friendly. Dallas was a little more energetic in the studio, but you can hear both of them contributing to the interview.
