About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

MSU Town & Gown Community Band Seeking Musicians

The Murray State Town & Gown Community Band kicks off its third season. The band includes between 90 to 100 members ranging in age from high school to college students to regional adults, college students. 'Fourchestra' Brings Steel Pan Funk to LowerTown

Amidst an eclectic lineup of musicians performing at this weekend's LowerTown Arts & Music Festival is the Asheville, North Carolina jazz fusion ensemble called the Jonathon Scales Fourchestra.  Bandleader Scales is a graduate of Appalachian State University. He was the saxophonist before turning to steel pans in 2002. We meet Jonathan Scales and hear the Fourchestra with Kate Lochte.

KSP Trooper on 'Click it or Ticket' Effort

Kentucky State Police Post 1 Officer Jay Thomas visits Tracy Ross on Sounds Good fore details on the Click It or Ticket campaign across the U.S. and Commonwealth. The effort is to bring awareness to the issue of wearing seatbelts. Thomas says he'd much rather see people buckled up at traffic checkpoints than give tickets. Thomas says much of the traffic fatalities in 2013 involved victims who weren't wearing seatbelts.

Youth Learn Love of Basketball at Coach Prohm Summer Camp

Each year, kids of all ages are invited to the week-long camp to learn the game of basketball and have fun playing it with Murray State's head coach and the Racers. Playhouse in the Park Presents "The Last Five Years"

Critics describe The Last Five Years as 'exhilarating' and 'intimate,' a contemporary musical by Jason Robert Brown that takes an intensely personal look at the relationship between a writer and an actress told from both points of view.  The musical comes to Murray's Playhouse in the Park under the direction of Chris Mitchell. On Sounds Good, cast members perform selections from the show.

This Saturday (May 10) is graduation day at Murray State, and will include the first five doctoral degrees to be awarded in the university's 92 year history. From Drawing to Metalsmithing, Murray State's Summer Art Workshop

Murray State Summer Art Workshop

Nicole Hand directs the Murray State Summer Art Workshop that is for freshman-seniors, June 8-13. The workshop has been going since the 1980's and this is Dale Leys 30th year teaching drawing in the workshop. Nicole and her husband Jim Bryant also run a website called Murray Kid, as well as a Facebook page of children's events activities in the Murray area. Kate Lochte speaks with Hand on Sounds Good about the art workshop and her work with Murray Kid.
