About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

National Weather Service: Snow Likely Tonight

The National Weather Service says a disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere will move across the Mississippi Valley tonight, bringing a spread of snow across the Ohio River Valley. We will likely receive roughly 1 to 2 inches of snow this evening, which may make roads hazardous. Rick Shanklin of NWS in Paducah gives us an outlook on weekend weather.

"Putt" Children First Fundraiser for Youth Mentors, Feb. 15

West Kentucky Mentoring provides one-to-one site-based mentoring services to youth between the ages of 5 to 18. They match caring adults with youth in various sites like schools libraries and homes; spending time helping with homework, sports and talking about life. Director Suzy Crook joins Kate on Sounds Good to talk about the first annual "Putt" Children First Fundraiser, February 15 at Treasure  Golf in Murray.

Murray Attorney Pens True Tale of Murder and Redemption

In 1922, the Graves County Sheriff was murdered in the courthouse in front of several witnesses. A few days later, his wife is appointed sheriff and begins her quest for redemption. Murray attorney Sid Easley tells this true tale in his book, A Courthouse Tragedy. Easley joins Kate Lochte in the studio during Sounds Good to describe the fateful events and reads from his book.

Fifty years ago this Sunday (February 9, 2014), four mop-topped lads from Liverpool took to a television stage and changed the world. The Beatles made their stateside debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in three consecutive headlining performances to great anticipation and fanfare, drawing over 73 million viewers and launching the 'British Invasion.' Commentator and Murray State history professor Dr. Brian Clardy reflects on their first performance and its cultural impact over 50 years.

Empty Bowls Event to Feed Paducah's Hungry, February 15

The Empty Bowls Project returns to Paducah at the Julian M. Carroll Convention Center February 15. The evening is a fundraiser for The Community Kitchen of Paducah, and gathers over 1,400 hand-made ceramic bowls and over a dozen different restaurants for an opportunity to feed the most fragile members of our community. 152 Years Later: Fort Henry's Construction, Battle and Legacy

The Battle of Fort Henry was fought on February 6, 1862, in western Tennessee and was the first important victory for the Union led by Ulysses S. Grant, in the Western Theater during the Civil War. Dover historian Susan "Ski" Witzofsky previews her February 8th program for the 152nd Anniversary of Fort Henry's construction, battle and legacy.
