About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

Building Cross-State Alliances with KTRA

Angela Hatton, left, interviews KTRA Executive Director Hollie Holt.

What’s good for one is good for all. That was the philosophy that led to the formation a few years ago of the Ken-Tenn Regional Alliance. It’s an economic partnership organization formed between Fulton, Hickman, and Carlisle counties in Kentucky, and Lake, Obion, and Weakley counties in Tennessee. KTRA was designed to focus on promoting the region’s shared assets, and building infrastructure.  KTRA’s new executive director Hollie Holt joined Angela Hatton in the WKMS studios.

Raising Money for Needline of Calloway County One Bowl at a Time

Tonight from 5 to 7 p.m., The Murray Art Guild hosts an Empty Bowl soup dinner to raise money for Needline of Calloway County. Guild Director Debi Danielson visits Sounds Good with a few of the hand-made bowls contributed by local artists. The conversation covers stunning statistics about hunger in our county and Commonwealth. The dinner is out doors on the grounds of the Guild at 500 North 4th Street, and while there are over 200 bowls ready for the soup made by MSU Nutrition students, Danielson says there will be lines and the bowls will go quickly.

Most of us have gone to the cemetery to visit family members, leave mementos on their graves, and maybe even say a few words. But it’s not often that they talk back. Next week, the Murray City Cemetery will come alive with re-enactors portraying some of the people buried there, and telling their stories. The event is sponsored by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Fort Heiman Camp.

Drew Seib

Television and radio airwaves are thick with election season news and political rhetoric.
