The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

1 Million Cups: An Economic Development Movement in Madisonville

Madisonville Attorney and Chair of the city council's economic development committee Mark Lee comes to Sounds Good with information on the 1 Million Cups movement. Building a supportive, conducive culture for entrepreneurship is important for community improvement and this program seeks to engage entrepreneurs on local levels, now in 40 cities - recently Madisonville, the first affiliate in Kentucky. Seymour Bluffs Childrens Author Reads at Wickliffe Mounds

 Seymour Bluffs is an American Bald Eagle who travels back in time to an Illini Indian village located along the Mississippi River and helps the natives resolve a problem with the mysterious Piasa Bird in the children's book by author Phyllis Bechtold. On Sounds Good, Kate speaks with Bechtold about her upcoming presentation on May 31 at Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site, and the life-sized Seymour Bluffs who will be on-hand to help Bechtold autograph her books for sale in this children's event.

The merger of the Henderson Chamber and Northwest Kentucky Forward that happened at the first of the year means another cooperative economic development group joins the West Kentucky Regional Chamber Alliance in taking our region's issues to Frankfort. You hear Kyndle and you think of the digital readers, but with a Y, it's an acronym for the Kentucky Network for Development, Leadership and Engagement. Kentucky SHIP Navigates Medicare & Medicaid Options

Today on Sounds Good we meet Kellie Oliver, the new State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Coordinator. SHIP provides information, counseling and assistance to seniors and disabled individuals, their family members and caregivers. The program seeks to educate the public and Medicare beneficiaries so they are better able to make informed decisions on healthcare.

Samfest V Preview: A Memorial/Charity Concert for Local Musician Sammie Crutcher

Chris Kerlick returns to Sounds Good to preview Samfest V, the annual memorial/charity concert for late local musician Sammie Crutcher this Saturday (May 24). It's a day of fun, food and music located at the Hidden Acres Campground. Sammie's daughter Kayla Crutcher makes an appearance this year as a special performer. This family event features music in the styles of bluegrass, country and rock & roll. Proceeds from this year's Samfest goes to the American Heart Association.

Penguin Project Pairs Special Needs Kids with Peer Mentors in Theatre

Murray's Playhouse in the Park is starting a program for kids with special needs called The Penguin Project. At 6 p.m. this Thursday (May 22) and next Thursday (May 29), Playhouse hosts introductory  - get acquainted meetings for special needs youth with youth interested in becoming peer mentors, and anyone who wants to know more about the project. Kate Lochte learns more with founder and director Dr. Andy Morgan. Dr. Morgan is a professor of clinical pediatrics and former head of the Division of Child Development at the University College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois.
