The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

"How I Became A Pirate" Opens at Market House Theatre

Ahoy Mateys! A new musical adventure docks in Paducah tonight (February 27) through March 9. "How I Became A Pirate" tells the story of a young boy who gets recruited by a friendly pirate captain and his whacky mates to help in the search for buried treasure. Along the way, they learn that real treasure can't be found on a map. April Cochran, Education Director for Paducah's Market House Theatre directs the production, and gives a preview on Sounds Good.

Kentucky Reshapes Services for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Legislation passed last Friday in the Kentucky House of Representatives codifies a new Advisory Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders. We learn more about this Council and how it reshapes services to ASD individuals with the Medical Director of the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, Dr. Allen Brenzel, a Lexington Pediatrician and Child Psychiatrist. Kate Lochte opens the discussion by asking how this council differs from its predecessor, created during the administration of Governor Ernie Fletcher in 2005.

Rabbi Pamela Barmash on Finding Religious Commonalities

Degrees from Yale, the Jewish Theological Seminary and Harvard are Rabbi Pamela Barmash's academic credentials as a professor of Hebrew Bible at Washington University in St. Louis. Barmash speaks at 4 PM Thursday, February 27 in Freed Curd Auditorium for the 2014 Social Work Lecture Series. She was a fellow at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. She is on the Committee of Jewish Law and Standards for Conservative Judaism and has served as Rabbi for a Massachusetts Temple. Kate Lochte speaks with Rabbi Barmash ahead of her presentation.

UT Martin Hosts Nation's Oldest Civil Rights Conference

This week, the University of Tennessee at Martin hosts "Freedom Summer: Fifty Years Later." It's their 14th Annual Civil Rights Conference featuring keynote speaker Mr. Dave Dennis, who participated in the first Freedom Bus ride from Montgomery, Alabama and in voter registration efforts during the 1964 Freedom Summer. Today, he works as the director and CEO of the Southern Initiative of the Algebra Project, a nonprofit that aims to improve mathematics education for minority children. UTM Department of History faculty member Dr. Renee LaFleur is coordinator for the conference and speaks with Kate Lochte about its events on Sounds Good.

Affrilachian Poet Presents 'Redefining the Region' at McCracken Co. Library

Kentucky Poet Laureate Frank X Walker calls Bianca Spriggs the "new standard bearer for the Affrilachian Poets," the group he founded. Spriggs is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Lexington, KY where she is a doctoral student at the University of Kentucky. She presents "Redefining the Region: Pushing Poetry Through Cultural Space" this Thursday (February 27) at 7 PM in Paducah for the McCracken County Public Library's "Evenings Upstairs" series. New Net Neutrality Rules Explained

The issue of net neutrality has seen a resurgence on across the internet again after the announcement that Netflix has agreed to pay Comcast to make its service run faster. The principle of net neutrality is that no internet service provider give favor to a particular company where, for example, the highest bidder could therefore throttle broadband connections. Murray State's Center for Telecommunications Systems Management Associate Director Michael Ramage talks about last week's FCC announcement of plans for new net neutrality rules on Sounds Good.

New Initiatives in Student Employment at Murray State

A change is in the making that will effect Murray State students regarding campus employment. MSU currently employs over 2,500 students on the main campus and demand for jobs is increasing. Officials are trying to meet the growing need of students seeking employment as a means to finance their education while on campus and to improve job placement after graduation. Murray State Vice President for Student Affairs Don Robertson and Director of Career Services Ross Meloan visit Sounds Good to talk about the new initiatives both on and off campus.
