About The Show

The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

Additionally, you'll hear interviews with newsmakers and community leaders, live music from some of our region's best musicians, our community events calendar and more.

The short version of the conversation heard on "Sounds Good"
The extended, full version of the conversation

British animator David Firth has gained a large following and acclaim over the years on YouTube and the animation website Newgrounds for his darkly humorous and surreal work. WKMS Youth Reporter Kayla Eicholtz admires the artwork in his videos and was curious to find out more about his creative process, to learn that while some artwork may be strange and possibly even scary, the originality of the idea can be a determining factor in how interesting a piece of art is. She spoke with Firth over the phone, while he was on a trip through Europe seeking inspiration, in Switzerland at this particular moment.

Why the Warren Thomas Museum Needs Your Help

Credit jacksonpurchasehistory.org

The church that beards Warren Thomas' name in Hickman, Kentucky, officially opened in 1869, and the first educational classes for African Americans began in its basement the next year. Fire destroyed the first building, but in 1898, another permanent building opened and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The 115 year old church structure has suffered theft and other problems that must be fixed before visitors can experience the site again. Kate Lochte has more with Jeannette Dean, who chairs the Warren Thomas Historic Society that strives to preserve this memorial to African American leaders of the 19th Century in Hickman.
