The music on Sounds Good is a mix of legacy artists who are still making great music now (Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt) deep cuts from classic artists (The Band, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, REM) great contemporary artists who don' t receive commercial airplay (Neko Case, Wilco, Jack White, Darrell Scott, The Black Keys) and those who defy the boundaries of categorization (Punch Brothers, Bela Fleck, Ry Cooder, Bill Frisell, Justin Townes Earle). You'll also get a bit of World music, Blues, Soul/R&B, Reggae and Jazz.

50 Years Later: The Cultural Significance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream Speech"

On this day 50 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech to a crowd of over 200,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Commentator and Murray State History Professor Dr. Brian Clardy reflects on this defining moment of the Civil Rights Movement, and it's cultural significance then and 50 years later.

KY Chamber Rep on what the Affordable Care Act Means for Businesses

An overview of how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will affect you and your business is on the horizon for attendees of this Thursday's Business@Breakfast of the Murray Calloway County Chamber of Commerce and Murray State's Town & Gown office. It starts at 7:30 a.m. in MSU's Curris Center Ballroom. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce presentation includes several online and in-person resource options. Its Manager of Public Affairs, Ashli Watts, brings the program. The Campbellsville University and University of Louisville graduate worked at the Kentucky Bar Association and the LRC before joining the chamber last year. Kate Lochte has the interview.

Playhouse in the Park Presents: "The Odd Couple"

The Odd Couple’s Oscar Madison has a perfect line for lunchtime: “I got brown sandwiches and green sandwiches. It’s either very new cheese or very old meat.” MSU English and Philosophy’s Rusty Jones directs Playhouse in the Park’s The Odd Couple opening Friday for a two weekend run. Dr. Jones brings cast members Brad Brauser (Oscar) and Tom Jackson (Felix) to visit Sounds Good. This Neil Simon iconic comedy won a Tony in 1965 and, according to the American Association of Community Theatres, it is still one of the most frequently produced comedies by community theatres around the world. Women in Telecom Golf Day Raises Scholarships Funds

Annie Vandiver joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good. She's with the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management at Murray State and is planning the annual AT&T Women in Telecom Golf Day at Miller to raise scholarship funds for women in the TSM program. Vandiver talks about this networking event and the event speaker, Barbara Webb, and her contributions in the telecom industry. They talk about women in the telecom industry in general, and the many career opportunities available in the field.

Murray State’s Cinema International Program is underway with the beginning of classes this week. English and Philosophy associate professor Tim Johns joins Kate Lochte on Sounds Good to talk about the first show: The Master, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. Tim previews the season ahead including free film showings from France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Japan, the UK and Greece. New Cookbook Simplifies Indian Cooking

Raghavan Iyer arrived in the United States in 1982 with a tin of Curry Powder and a bottle of red pepper flakes. These spices helped the day-to-day cooking in the dorm kitchen of his college to remind him of home. Experimenting with what he could find in a mainstream grocery store, Iyer learned to create the complexity of the Indian flavors he craved. And he grew a respected career in teaching others how to cook this way. Workman Publishing, New York, has published Chef Iyer's Indian Cooking Unfolded, A Master Class in Indian Cooking with 100 Easy Recipes Using 10 Ingredients or Less. Celebrate the Soybean in Martin

The City of Martin’s Brad Thompson joins us to preview activities of The Soybean Festival that can bring up to 40,000 people to Martin to observe west Tennessee’s dominance in soybean production. The festival will be in downtown Martin from September 1 to 8, featuring music by Dustin Lynch, The Martins, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Tim May, Survivor, and Sawyer Brown. According to the festival website, the festival got its start 20 years ago and celebrates the "crossroads of good living," allowing people to "pay homage to a tiny, but worthy vegetable that is capable of feeding and fueling everday lives."
